The start date for the position is 1 February 2026.
Candidates must have a track record of excellent research with an international impact in the field of the philosophy of mind. They are expected to have relevant teaching experience and be able to cover the subject of theoretical philosophy broadly in their teaching, in particular the philosophy of language. In addition, it is desirable that they be able to offer courses in the history of philosophy.
Conducting outstanding and original research in the field of philosophy, the future postholder will actively cooperate with other professors at the Department of Philosophy,
at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, at other faculties of the University of Zurich, as well as with national and international institutions (in particular with the
National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) “Evolving Language”).
Candidates must hold a PhD in philosophy at the time of application and have an excellent record of academic publications in a field other than the one in
their PhD thesis. Depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate, the professorship will be filled as a full or associate professorship.
Non-German speaking candidates are expected to acquire a working knowledge of German and be able to teach in German within the first three years of their appointment.
