Sometimes, philosophers and people interested in philosophy want to know what activities, organisations, talks, people there are specifically for some particular place or region. This is why it makes sense for us to organise some portal content geographically, such as events, information pages about seminars and the like, but also institutions such as high-schools and cabinets. 

In a decentralised, federalistic and very much locally patriotic country like Switzerland, such geographic categorisation is not easy. For better or worse, we have decided to go by universities and roughly group the adjacent cantons with them. There are 10 cantonal universities in Switzerland:

• Basel 
• Bern 
• Fribourg 
• Genève
• Lausanne 
• Lugano 
• Lucerne 
• Neuchâtel 
• St. Gallen 
• Zürich 

We enlarged them into regions, sometimes giving them the same way: this means, for example, the the French speaking Jura is "part" of Neuchâtel and that the Valais is part of "Lausanne". But well, they just don't have their own universities... 

This more or less corresponds to what Wikipedia says about the seven "greater regions" of Switzerland, except that we divide "Mittelland" into Berne , Neuchâtel and Fribourg and the "région lémanique" into Geneva and Lausanne.

• "Zentralschweiz", theme-tag “Zentralschweiz”, sort-tag “LU”, includes Luzern, Uri, Schwyz, Obwalden, Nidwalden 
• “Neuchâtel”, theme-tag "Neuchâtel", sort-tag “NE”,  includes the French-speaking Jura (of the cantons of Jura and Berne)
• "Ostschweiz", theme-tag “Ostschweiz”, sort-tag “SG”, includes  St. Gallen, Schaffhausen, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Glarus, Graubünden and Thurgau 
• "Zürich", theme-tag “Zürich”, sort-tag “ZH”, includes Aargau and Zug
