Your Profile
We're looking for a portal webmaster and IT engineer, for the following websites:
The job includes both day-to-day managing and upkeep, including teaching team-members how to use existing functionalities, and incremental improvements, within the limits of what's feasible in the short term and with modest means.
In addition, the job includes:
- the development (programming, testing, publishing) of new online courses
- the adaptation of the "fishpond" system for new uses (esp. students and academic philosophers more generally) and for its present use as the refereeing plattform for Dialectica (esp. wrt the inclusion of "open peer review" elements)
- the production of both online and offline tools for the management of our huge (approx. 200'000 entries) BibTeX bibliography, both as a self-standing database (used for Dialectica copy-editing) and as integrated into the portal architecture (special-purpose bibliographies made available on the portal)
- the improvement of our present Dialetica copy-editing workflow (using markdown and pandoc), and its adaptation to the copy-editing of portal articles
- the conceptualisation and preparation of a complete relaunch of the portal
- You should be able to understand (not necessarily speak) oral German and French. Ideally, you would have a background (or at least an interest) in philosophy, though that's not a strict requirement.
Place of work is Biel/Bienne.
You will work in a "core" team of five, under the portal editor Philipp Blum and together with the managing editor of Dialectica, the stakeholder manager and the portal's content manager.
What we offer
We offer a fixed-term, but extendable contract for 14 months, with a probatory period of two months, a competitive salary (36 CHF per hour), a high degree of independence and the opportunity to achieve in-depth knowledge of the Swiss philosophy scene. In addition to the core tasks of the portal administration, your initative and creativity in developping new content series, formats and projects will be very welcome.
How to apply
To apply, send an email with your CV, your contact details and a one-page exposé with some ideas on how to improve the portal (within the bounds of the existing technical functionalities) to info@philosophie.ch by October 1.
