A Huge Bibliography

Philipp Blum's personal biography, grown over the years in thousands of unpaid work hours (and some, privately paid, freelancers) has now been granted to the association. We aim to make it useful for the profession as a whole, and Swiss Philosophers in particular. It comprises 210'000 entries and is, at least in parts, better than phil-papers. The two main differences are: it's Swiss and hand-made. The first difference explains:

  • a better coverage (and better spelling) of non-English publications, especially in German, French and Italian;
  • a better coverage of edited volumes, especially older ones, particularly those which are not available in machine-readable formats;
  • a careful management of "title-case" for English titles, avoiding it for other languages and curating it by hand, not using some automatic system (which does not get emphasis, for example);
  • a manual system for key-creation, not based on the title (often variable), but on the authors' names and the publication year (as in author-year citations).

The second difference is that our bibliography has been created manually, not automatically as phil-papers is now (it grew out of David Chalmers' personal consciousness bibliography), which explains:

much less Frege cases (mistaken non-identities), ie. papers by the same author attributed to different author-entries, most of the time slightly differing in spelling (often attributable to the authors themselves, who publish as all of "Philipp Blum", "P. Blum", "Philipp Alexander Blum", "Philipp A. Blum", "P.A. Blum", sometimes even as "Phil Blum" or under pseudonyms);

a careful handling of name-changes and double names: name-changes are applied to publications pre-dating the change (with explanatory notes) and double names are handled according to geographical and personal conventions (e.g.: Spanish and Portuguese double names are handed differently);
