Discover what's new on philosophie.ch

The Swiss Portal of Philosophy offers more than 800 articles by more than 600 authors in German, French, Italian and English, as well as an event calendar with events organised by all Swiss institutions active in philosophy. It is visited every month by more than 30,000 people interested in philosophy.

Become a member of our association so that we can invite you to our general assembly in Biel in April 2025 – we would be very pleased to do so!

Of course, we are also very happy to receive other forms of support, whether financial or content wise!

New features on the portal

The portal is now quadrilingual. We have introduced a multilingual section where you will find articles, contributions, and event information in different languages. The other sections in German, English, French, and Italian are also maintained, and you will find informational pages in the respective languages. You can choose the language of your choice on the homepage, and you will find information about the philosophical microcosm in Switzerland in each of the four languages.

We have refreshed and rebuilt the forms that allow users to submit articles, update their profile information, announce events, and provide informational pages, with detailed explanations on the 'Frequently Asked Questions' pages.

Personal profiles now include information about publications and a list of pages on the portal that mention the respective person. Here are the lists of profiles on the portal:

A bibliography for philosophy

By publishing the articles of the journal Dialectica for the years 2020-2024 in open access, Philosophie.ch has become a publishing house, striving to revolutionize the ways in which the fruits of philosophical research are made accessible.

A large part of this goal involves our major bibliography project, of which we have begun publishing the first results.

Job Offers

We try to keep our page with job advertisements in philosophy (primarily but not exclusively in Switzerland) up to date. We are very grateful for any tips!!!

Newsletter

We offer you a carefully crafted Newsletter that will keep you updated on the latest news regarding philosophy in Switzerland. Through (at most) one email per month, we will provide you with an update on what we are doing, an overview of recently published articles, and some information about upcoming events.

When you subscribe to the newsletter through this form, you can provide us with additional information about yourself (whether or not you are a PhD student or a secondary school teacher) and about your interests in specific themes/topics (doctoral studies, secondary education, diversity in philosophy), so that we can connect you with organizations working in these areas and inform you about fitting projects of Philosophie.ch

Philosophy in Switzerland.

Our pages on Research Projects in philosophy in Switzerland, PhD studies, philosophy students, colleges and high schools, and high school philosophy are progressing slowly but surely – stay tuned!

The first results of our research project on the history of Swiss philosophy are now available on the portal. If you want to help us: we are trying to compile as complete a list as possible of Swiss philosophers outside of universities – any information is welcome.

The main goal of our association is to be useful to philosophy, to the public interested in philosophy, and to philosophers in Switzerland. We are particularly trying to facilitate networking between PhD students (through our newsletter and CUSO workshops) and between those who practice philosophy in high schools (through our newsletter, online courses, the collection of teaching materials, in collaboration with VSPM); so don't hesitate to let us know who you are and what you know about philosophy in Switzerland! Our long-term goal, generously supported by swissuniversities, is to create a "philosophers' workbench", a virtual space where we will do philosophy together.

We have tried to organize our documentation of the Swiss philosophical microcosm based on locations and cantons. The following pages are already available (here is more information on the geographical distribution):

Contributions

whether we should decide to think he's a fascist.

This is a paper by Riccardo Roni, a researcher at the University of Florence. The paper explores the original historical problem of Hegel’s presence in Royce’s thinking. Here's the paper!

The essay explores the ethical relationships between people, with a focus on vulnerability and dependence. Jørgen Meyer uses Judith Butler's "Precarious Life – The Powers of Mourning and Justice" as a framework to discuss how address, discourse, and grief are key concepts in this discussion. Recognizing vulnerability and dependence as integral components of ethical relationships can have significant implications for our understanding thereof.

The philosophy of orientation, as Werner Stegmaier has developed it over several decades, instead observes and reflects how different philosophies orient themselves from different standpoints, in different perspectives, and within different horizons.

The confrontation of opposing worldviews often leads to conflict, but what happens when even the basic assumptions are disputed? Digital phenomena like "shitstorms" show how shared reality becomes a battlefield of irreconcilability. Alex Byrne shares his personal experiences with "social media outrage" and "virtue signalling".

Projects and Thematic Features

Philosophy and Food

Lit-Philo

A project (in german) in which Philosophy and Literature merge – the result: texts that combine both disciplines. The first of these texts can be found here (also in german)

What does food (or eating it) have in common with philosophy? A new project in cooperation with Stadt Ernähren! This project is in german.

The philosophy portal offers an archive where you can safeguard your drafts, teaching materials, handouts, and powerpoints from being plagiarized. Additionally, it allows you to share them freely under a Creative Commons license. You can easily submit your material by sending it to info@philosophie.ch.

Press Review

In addition to philpublica's excellent press review, a record and discussion of substantial reports in the Swiss media on philosophy or philosophers will be available on the platform. This concerns both print and online press, radio and television.

We care not only about the philosophy, but also about the wider environment in which it takes place. This gives a voice to those who are not heard.

Book reviews and notes

It can be difficult to keep up with all the new publications in philosophy, but our reviews and book notes page can help make it easier to choose what to read. We have revised the page to make it clearer and more helpful.
